Journalist Rozina Islam gets interim bail

A Dhaka court today granted interim bail to Prothom Alo Senior Correspondent Rozina Islam in a case filed by the health ministry under the Official Secrets Act.

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Baki Billah issued the order this morning.

Earlier on Thursday, the court fixed today for passing the order on her bail petition in the case following a virtual hearing.

Rozina was not produced before the court during the hearing. 

Rozina Islam was confined and assaulted on last Monday in an office room of the health ministry at the Secretariat for more than five hours over an allegation of 'trying to steal' confidential government documents.

Dr Md Shibbir Ahmed Osmani, deputy secretary of the health division, filed the complaint with the Shahbagh Police Station in the night. The case was filed against Rozina Islam under the Official Secrets Act.
