The role
The Senior Manager- Media & Communications in his/her capacity is responsible for providing leadership to ensure excellence in building and maintaining effective working relationships internally and externally with members, partners and donors, in both emergency and development contexts. This senior position shares overall responsibility for implementing a consistent brand and visibility of SCI through leading the Media and Communications team. S/he will function as a key contact for external communications and work with programs to develop crisp communications materials for development interventions and humanitarian response and to build a stronger brand narrative.
The Senior Manager will implement communications & media strategy which identifies audiences influencing Save the Children’s program implementation, and strengthen program and partner staff capacity on communication and media. S/he will also develop and maintain strong relationships with media outlets in the country, and maximize media opportunities, including drafting media statements for in-country media release and ensure the SC visibility in the media and other relevant platform. Responsibilities also include, contribute in country strategic plan, high quality communications materials development and sharing with relevant audience, communication team supervision and technical guidance to programs.
Qualifications and experience
At least 7 years’ working experience in managing communications and media activities, preferably substantial experience in a corporate or an I/NGO environment, including 3 years in management position
Demonstrated experience in successfully leading the development and implementation of communication strategies.
Experienced in managing media crisis and strong national media network
Demonstrable track record of leading change which has led to significant results for the organisation and their stakeholders
Excellent spoken, writing and presentation skills, particularly in English
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
Ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
Advanced computer proficiency in MS-Office suit, Excellent research and analytical skills
Demonstrated networking skills with the media, government representatives and other stakeholders.
Understanding and well-abreast of social media platforms and proven ability to manage team.
Master’s Degree in Communication/Journalism/Public Administration/Social Science or relevant field.
